ALLISON LOUIS
Allison Louis is a 17-year-old who loves to compose and perform music. Born and raised in Vancouver, Allison started playing classical piano at age 4. She had an affinity for music early on and enjoyed singing songs by their individual notes and chords, instead of the lyrics.
She is a prolific songwriter and, at age 11, played a 30-minute set of her original music at the historic Bitter End Rock Club in New York. Over the years, she began to explore different musical genres and instruments, including classical and jazz double bass. She is extremely fortunate to have been taught by an extraordinary group of teachers at O Music Studios, Vancouver Academy of Music and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music (VSO SOM). She is mentored and inspired by her teachers: Jeannie Park, Jocelyn Lai, Jodi Proznick, Miles Black and Noah Franche-Nolan.
Allison performs regularly, including as a pianist with VSO SOM’s Big Band. She has also had opportunities to play her original music at events such as the VSO’s Riopelle Symphonique in 2024 and the Rising Stars of Jazz series in 2025.
While continuing to explore her musicianship, Allison is grateful to have been recognized with several awards, including winning the 2020 American Protégé competition on jazz double bass at Carnegie Hall. Combining her love of film and music, she was a finalist in the music video category for the 2024 BC Student Film Festival. Allison was also recognized with the 2024 Fraser Macpherson Jazz Fund Scholarship for jazz piano. Most recently, she was selected as the pianist for the 2025 National Youth Jazz Combo at MusicFest Canada.
